Community Connections
Throughout the year, the parish hosts a number of social events from pancake suppers to holiday treat making to our annual patronal feast.
We also have a new program called Community Circles started during the pandemic. Every member of the parish who wishes to be, is part of a small circle of about 8 families. Each circle has a convener who makes sure everyone in the circle has each other’s contact info. Circle members are encouraged to contact one another to get to know each other better, and to find ways to connect around a common interest (read a favorite author together, have a zoom tea, do a physically-distanced walk, etc.) and the convener arranges occasional times for the whole circle to connect or join in a larger activity (such as an outreach project). The hope is for each circle to develop its own ways of connecting organically and which reflect the interests of those in the group as well as a way to have some fun and foster friendships.
Pastoral Care
Caring for those in need within our parish family is central to how we love one another. Members of St. Martin’s offer their gifts of care, healing and compassion through the following ministries:
Prayer Circle: Members of this ministry receive weekly emails with prayer requests and commit to pray through the list at least once per week.
Prayer Shawl Ministry: We knit and crochet prayer shawls which are blessed and made available (free of charge) to anyone who needs one or knows of someone who would benefit from this comfort.
Visitors: go to the homes or residences of parishioners who are ill or unable to come to church on a regular basis.
Lay Eucharistic Visitors: take Holy Communion to those unable to be at worship and who desire to receive the Sacrament.
Companions: people who travel with those undergoing long-term or intense circumstances, offering spiritual care and the ministry of listening and support.
Hospitality and Meals: Members of the parish prepare and take meals to those for whom this may be of help. Parish members are also available to take care of funeral receptions upon the family’s request.
If you want to learn more about any of these ministries, please contact the parish.
