St. Martin’s offers classes and formation opportunities for all ages to allow us to explore our faith more deeply and grow more fully into the image of Christ. The parishes of St. Martin’s, Good Shepherd and St. Laurence often offer education and formation for adults together.
Sunday School: During the school year we offer Sunday School at the 10:00 a.m. worship service. Every other Sunday (or so) our worship opens with a Children’s Talk, after which the children go to their classes. This year, we are using the “Seasons of the Spirit” curriculum. This is a scripture-based, ecumenical resource designed to help children explore their faith, learn the Bible, and discover core Christian practices such as prayer and service. Our leaders offer a fun, engaging and open atmosphere, including arts & crafts and drama. Children rejoin their families for Holy Communion. On the second Sunday of the month, our children join the clergy at the altar to help lead the Eucharistic Prayer–our Second Sunday Helpers. Leader: Danielle Wahl.
Youth: We offer a youth program during our 10 a.m. worship service during the school year plus opportunities for formation, confirmation, service and mission. We are part of One Body–a youth program that involves the youth of St. Martin’s, St. Laurence and Good Shepherd. Please see the OneBody Youth page on this site for more details.
Adult Offerings: Classes are offered periodically throughout the year. This fall, the rector led a class called “Listening to Scripture”. This 4-week course helped us get “underneath” the Bible and learn the historical context in which the Bible came into being, providing approaches and tools to interpret and analyze the texts faithfully and soundly.
During Lent we are offering a book-study on “The Gift of Years: Growing Older Gracefully”, by Sr. Joan Chittester. The discussion will be at Knox Presbyterian Church, 3704-37th St. SW, on Wednesday, March 28th, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Come having read the book and with 2-3 passages that were especially meaningful to share!
In late April, we will offer a 2-3 week course on Atonement to prepare for the visit of the Rev. Dr. Rita Nakashima Brock at the Wisdom Centre. Please visit www.wisdomcentre.ca for more details.
All adult classes are joint offerings of St. Martin’s, St. Laurence and Good Shepherd.
